  General specifications of navigation programs

  

  Introduction

  In complying with the Islamic republic of Iran constitutional law and the principle of and cultural independence, considering the long term plan of the Islamic republic of Iran in regard to the economic and cultural independence as well as seafaring trainings independence, qualitative and quantitative development of the effective resources and in accordance with the requirements of the international convention on standards of training, certification and watchkeeping for seafarers adopted by the Islamic consultative assembly in 1375, the training programs has established according to the following specifications:

 

  Definition

  The program is considered as a higher educational course which is established for the Sea Engineering- Navigation undergraduate course and also its master levels, maritime transportation and port and shipping.

 

  a) Bachelor of science (BSc) specifications

  Objectives:

  The aim is to train the cadets to a level as to be able to steer and to handle the merchant ships of GT>500 technically and professionally in accordance with the international convention on standards of training, certification and watchkeeping for seafarers (STCW 2010).

 

  Program syllabus

  The average duration of the Sea Engineering- Navigation undergraduate program taking into account the internship period is about 4 years. Each semester is about 16 weeks with theoretical courses of 16 hours and practical 32 hours. The internship training course period is 48 hours.

  The total number of the credits of the Sea Engineering- Navigation undergraduate program is equal to 132 credits as follows:

  b) MSc in maritime science

  Objectives:

  The purpose of the maritime science master program is to prepare students for careers in professional management in maritime organizations including governmental and non-governmental and be able to attend PhD programs in maritime sciences.

 

  Program syllabus:

  As per ministry of sciences, researches and technology for the master programs.

  

  Admission requirements for maritime MSc programs:

  - Holders of BSc in different fields of marine engineering, marine commercial management.

  - Completing up to 30 credits hours as per nautical department's requirements.

  - Not being engaged in other education programs.

  - Acceptance in entrance exams.
